Annual Choice Benefits

A practical guide to selecting your Marriott Bonvoy Annual Choice Benefit and avoiding regret.

eliteannual-choicebenefits

Annual Choice Benefits are one of the highest leverage parts of Marriott Bonvoy, especially if you are reaching Platinum (50 nights) for the first time or pushing towards Titanium (75 nights). This guide explains what you can choose, how the deadlines work, what other members are picking so far, and how to decide based on how you actually travel.

How Marriott Annual Choice Benefits work

  • When you qualify

    • At 50 Elite Night Credits in a calendar year, you unlock the 50 night Annual Choice Benefit (Platinum level).
    • At 75 Elite Night Credits, you unlock an additional 75 night Annual Choice Benefit (Titanium level).
  • When you can choose

    • You can usually select as soon as you qualify.
    • You have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on 1 February of the following year to make your selection(s).
    • If you are eligible for both 50 night and 75 night benefits, Marriott asks you to choose both in the same flow.
  • Where you make the selection

    • Make your selection on the official Choice Benefits website: choice-benefit.marriott.com.
    • On mobile, use a browser, you are still completing the selection on the website.
  • Defaults and finality

    • If you do nothing by the deadline, Marriott will automatically select Five Nightly Upgrade Awards by default.
    • Once you confirm your choice(s), selections are final and cannot be changed.

What you can choose at 50 nights (Platinum level)

Once you reach 50 Elite Night Credits, you unlock one of the following:

  • Five Nightly Upgrade Awards
Advance upgrade requests for eligible paid and award stays, typically into standard suites or premium rooms. One award usually covers one room for one night, and you must have enough awards to cover every night in the booking, including nights paid with points or Free Night Awards.
Quick rules that matter: you can request after booking and up to 2:00 p.m. hotel time the day before arrival. Marriott typically starts checking availability 5 days before arrival, or 3 days before for EDITION, The Ritz Carlton, and St Regis. If an upgrade does not clear, the awards are returned to your account.
Not every brand participates. See: Nightly Upgrade Award eligibility and exclusions.

  • US$1,000 Bed Discount
A one time US$1,000 promotional discount towards a Marriott mattress or box spring purchased through Marriott’s bedding store. Shipping, tax, and any bed frames are extra. Strong value only if you were already planning this purchase.

  • US$100 Charity Donation
Marriott donates US$100 on your behalf to one of several partner charities, such as: Arne M. Sorenson Hospitality Fund, UNICEF, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), or Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Options can vary by year or location. This is typically not tax deductible for you personally.

  • Gift Silver Elite Status
You can gift Silver Elite to someone who has not earned Elite status during the current Elite year. Silver is a light status, so this is mainly useful for a partner or family member who stays independently a few times a year.

  • Five Elite Night Credits (ENC)
Marriott adds five Elite Night Credits (ENC) to your current qualification year total, not to the following year.

    • Best use case is when it moves you over a real threshold, such as reaching 75 nights for Titanium, 100 nights for Ambassador, or a Lifetime Elite milestone.
    • They do not give you extra nights next year and they cannot retroactively create a 50 night or 75 night entitlement if you finished the year below those levels.

What you can choose at 75 nights (Titanium level)

Once you reach 75 Elite Night Credits, you unlock another Annual Choice Benefit. You can choose from all of the 50 night options above, plus:

  • Gift Gold Elite Status
You can gift Gold Elite to someone who has not earned Elite status during the current Elite year. Gold is meaningfully stronger than Silver and is usually best for a frequent stayer in your household.

  • One Free Night Award up to 40,000 points (FNA)
A single Free Night Award (FNA) worth up to 40,000 points for a standard room. You can usually top it up with up to 15,000 points to book above 40,000 points. It must be used for a stay that checks out by the published expiry date, typically 31 December of the year after you earn it.

You still have access at 75 nights to Five Nightly Upgrade Awards, the US$1,000 Bed Discount, the US$100 Charity Donation, Five Elite Night Credits (ENC), and gifting Silver or Gold Elite as above.

Timing, expiry and common gotchas

  • You earn the 50 night and 75 night benefits by reaching those thresholds within the calendar year, and you can usually select as soon as you qualify.
  • The selection deadline is 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on 1 February of the following year.
  • Many benefits expire on 31 December of the year after they are earned. Always confirm the expiry shown in your account at the time you select.
  • Elite Night Credits (ENC) are different. They add to your qualification year total and remain there for status tracking and Lifetime calculations.
  • If you forget to pick, Marriott will default you into Five Nightly Upgrade Awards.

What other members are choosing so far (live poll)

We run an informal, anonymous intent poll for Platinum and Titanium members on whathotel.io to see what people plan to choose. It does not affect your real selection with Marriott, it is simply a way to share how people are thinking.

See the live poll and vote here: Annual Choice Benefit 2026 poll.

Snapshot at the time of writing, with 47 total votes:

  • 50 night (Platinum level) choices

    • Five Nightly Upgrade Awards lead with about 29.8% (14 votes).
    • Five Elite Night Credits (ENC) are next with about 8.5% (4 votes).
    • Other options have only a few votes so far.
  • 75 night (Titanium level) choices

    • The 40,000 point Free Night Award (FNA) leads with about 17.0% (8 votes).
    • Five Nightly Upgrade Awards are next with about 12.8% (6 votes).
    • Other options have very low vote counts at this stage.
  • Undecided

    • About 27.7% (13 votes) selected Undecided.

This poll is self selected and the sample is small, so treat it as directional. For the latest results, visit: Annual Choice Benefit 2026 poll.

How to choose based on how you actually travel

Think about how you will realistically use Marriott over the next year or two, then match that to the benefit:

  • You stay often at upgrade friendly full service hotels
If you regularly stay at brands where suites clear in practice, Five Nightly Upgrade Awards can deliver big comfort gains on the trips that matter. Best for frequent work travel and for people who can plan stays in advance.

  • You want a guaranteed extra stay, not uncertain upgrades
If you prefer certainty, the 40,000 point Free Night Award at 75 nights is usually the simplest value. Best if you already redeem around 35,000 to 40,000 points and can use it before expiry.

  • You are right on the edge of a higher tier or a Lifetime milestone
If five nights clearly pushes you over 75, 100, or a meaningful Lifetime threshold, Five Elite Night Credits (ENC) can be the highest impact choice. If it does not change anything meaningful, it is usually poor value.

  • You were already planning a Marriott bed purchase
If a branded mattress was already in your budget, the US$1,000 bed discount can be excellent. If not, it often creates spend you would not otherwise make.

  • You will not use the benefits yourself
If your Marriott stays will be minimal, consider gifting status or choosing the charity donation as the most satisfying outcome.

Putting it together

For most new or aspiring Platinum members:

  • Start with: Will I realistically use upgrades or a free night in the next 12 to 18 months
  • If you stay at upgrade friendly properties and can plan ahead, Nightly Upgrade Awards are a solid default at 50 nights and can still make sense at 75 nights.
  • If you prefer certainty, the 40,000 point Free Night Award at 75 nights is often the most straightforward pick.
  • Choose Elite Night Credits (ENC) only when they clearly unlock a higher tier or a meaningful Lifetime milestone.

Whichever you choose, log in to choice-benefit.marriott.com before 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on 1 February and confirm your selection. If you do nothing, Marriott will default you into Five Nightly Upgrade Awards.
